Admissions and Applications
Undergraduate Admission
Applicants to the Chaplin School are required to submit an application for admission to the University and are required to follow the regular University admission procedures described on the FIU Undergraduate Admissions web site. Applicants must be eligible for admission to the University before receiving admission to the School. A minimum TOEFL score of 500 written or 63 ibT is required for international applicants. See the International Admissions page for additional information for international applicants.
Any student who has completed two years of college (60 transferable semester hours) may apply for admission as a transfer student to the upper division program. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required for transfer students. Admissions will review your official transcripts for transfer credits upon submission of your application. Domestic students may enroll on either a full-time or a part-time basis; International students must enroll full-time (at least 12 credits per semester). Students with less than 60 transfer credits are subject to freshman admission criteria.
All students are required to meet the University’s Core Curriculum requirements prior to graduation. It is not necessary to have been previously enrolled in a hotel, restaurant, or tourism program. The curriculum will provide the specialized professional education to equip the student for a career in hospitality and tourism management. Students with training in liberal arts, business, education, or technology, for example, are qualified to enroll in the program.
A maximum of 60 lower division undergraduate semester credits may be transferred from a junior or community college program. More credits may be transferred from a related upper-division program at a four-year institution.
Undergraduate applicants are advised to respect the Admissions Deadlines of the Undergraduate Admissions Office.

Graduate Admission
Applicants to the Chaplin School are required to submit a Graduate Application for Admission to the University and are required to follow the regular University admission procedures described on the FIU Graduate Admissions web site. Applicants must be eligible for admission to the University before receiving admission to the School. Graduate Admissions requires an earned 4-year Bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 written or 80 ibT is required for international applicants. See the International Admissions page for additional information for international applicants.
An applicant who feels the earned GPA is not indicative of his or her ability to be successful in a graduate degree program may also submit minimum scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), which will be taken into consideration by the admissions committee in its evaluation of the application. Official GRE or GMAT scores are required for students with below 3.0 GPA in 60 credits of upper-division coursework, as calculated by Graduate Admissions.
Applicants who meet admissions criteria but do not have undergraduate preparation in Hospitality Management may be required to complete a series of pre-requisite courses. Specific courses will depend upon the individual’s undergraduate preparation. Students may take these pre-requisite courses within their graduate electives, required for the program. A maximum of six semester hours of related graduate credits may be transferred from another university or from the graduate programs of this University.
Executive Master's Track
In addition to the Graduate Admission requirements above, a minimum of five years hospitality related management experience or hospitality related educator (instructor) experience is required for acceptance into this track.
