Hospitality Enterprise Technologies -
Management Information Systems
In today's global economy it is difficult, if not impossible, to manage a modern organization without at least some knowledge and understanding of information systems -- what they are, how they affect the organization and its employees, and how they can make businesses more competitive and efficient. Information systems have become essential for creating competitive firms, managing global corporations, and providing useful products and services to customers. This course provides an introduction to management information systems examining technical issues associated with these systems, and providing a understanding how to effectively utilize IS to enhance and improve daily management of a hospitality enterprise.

E-Commerce for the Hospitality Industry
The impact of e-commerce is far-reaching. The Internet took the world by surprise and has rapidly become the primary commerce and communications medium for virtually every industry. The benefits of the e-interface between sectors of the business environment (business-to-consumer, business-to-business, business-to-government) includes global distribution, lower cost of transactions, better customer service, quick comparison shopping, productivity gains, customization, and much more. This course examines the the principles of planning, designing, and operating e-commerce functions form technical and managerial perspectives.

Biography

Professor Beitler's hospitality experience began more than 25 years ago in his family's restaurant business. He branched out on his own to become an owner/operator of a large nightclub, then opened and operated a fine dining restaurant. Professor Beitler gained his corporate management experience at the Stouffer Oak Brook Hotel in Illinois as a food/beverage manager. He earned A.A.S., B.S., and M.S. degrees in Hospitality Management, as well as an Ed.S. degree in Adult Education with a concentration on Educational Technology.

Professor Beitler joined the faculty team at Florida International University 's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management in 1995, and has instructed technology and hospitality courses at Johnson & Wales University, Nova Southeastern University, Florida Memorial College, and Mast Academy. He now serves as the Director of Distance Learning and an Instructor of Information Technology for the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at FIU.
