The Barilla Best New Student Chef Award

The Barilla Best New Student Chef Award has been established to recognize students at the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Florida International University who exhibit their commitment to and passion for the culinary arts.

Eligibility and selection criteria for the Barilla Best New Student Chef Award are:

  1. Undergraduate degree-seeking students in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management with junior or senior standing; or degree-seeking graduate students.
  2. Enrollment as a full-time student majoring in Hospitality Management.
  3. Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 = A scale).
  4. Applicants do not have to demonstrate financial need.
  5. The Award is open to U.S. citizens, residents and non-citizens.

All applicants must submit the following documents as part of the application process:

  1. Autobiographical account with reference to career goals and explanation of why the award would be helpful in achieving these goals.
  2. Include in the narrative the answers to the following questions:
    • What does authentic Italian gastronomy mean to you?
    • What have you done in your experience, either academic, personal or professional, to learn about authentic Italian gastronomy?
  3. Letter of recommendation from a present or former FIU faculty member.
  4. Current resume.

The Barilla Best New Student Chef Award will be presented at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival Tribute Brunch. The student will be selected by the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Scholarship Committee.
