Bio

An associate teaching professor in the Vidal-Duart Wine Studies Program at the Chaplin School of Hospitality Management, Dr. Brostrom is the inaugural designate to the Chip Cassidy '75 Distinguished Professorship of Wine. Her multifaceted role at the Chaplin School includes teaching wine-related courses, guiding students in shaping their professional paths within the wine industry and steering the strategic development of the Vidal-Duart Wine Studies Program, while serving as industry liaison between the school and the international wine community.

Dr. Brostrom’s two decades of experience in both the wine industry and academia along with her understanding of the wine market brings a unique perspective to her role. Having held multiple positions in winery management, import, distribution, retail, and the non-profit wine education sector, her background features an international profile highlighted by numerous seminars and presentations as well as three books on wine. Before joining the faculty at FIU, she contributed to the undergraduate and graduate wine programs at Sonoma State University and The Culinary Institute of America. Her industry consulting clients included Vinexpo America and a host of wine importers and regional wine boards. Parallel with her teaching career, she co-founded Italian Wine Central, a wine education and certification organization, and prior to that she was Vice President of Education for Winebow, a national importer and distributor of fine wines from around the world. 

Geralyn holds a BS in Management and an MBA in Marketing and earned her Doctor of Business Administration from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. A dual citizen of the United States and the Italian Republic, she has made nearly 40 visits to Italy, traveled to over 20 of the world’s wine regions, and lived in the heart of wine country in California’s Napa Valley for close to a decade.
