Financial Aid

You will be considered a Transient Student while you are still completing your bachelor’s degree at your state college. Please see the steps to complete the transient student process below.

  • Financial Aid Process
    1. Complete a Transient Student Application at FloridaShines.org.
(When completing the Transient Student Application, in order for financial aid to be considered, you must make the appropriate selections on the application.)
    2. Register for your approved transient courses.
(Financial aid for approved courses cannot be released until after official enrollment has been reported. Enrollment is reported by the host institution (FIU) to the Federal Clearinghouse a few business days after the last day of enrollment to add/drop a course(s).)
    3. You must first pay for your transient course(s) in order for the home institution (Miami Dade College) to validate and release any eligible aid.
    4. Before the last day to pay semester fees/tuition at FIU, submit the Concurrent Enrollment Agreement form to FIU Financial Aid Office with the appropriate documentation from the steps above.
  • Processing
    1. After courses begin at FIU, your financial aid will automatically adjust for the FIU enrollment only. Any balance in your account that results from this automatic adjustment must be paid before the tuition payment deadline.
    2. After the host institution reports and confirms transient enrollment, then your FIU financial aid will be adjusted to reflect your overall concurrent enrollment and eligible award. Any refunds that result from this adjustment, will then be processed.
      • A hold will be placed on your FIU account until the final step has been completed.
  • After Completing Concurrent Semester
    • After term grades have posted, you are to submit Official Transcripts from your host institution to your home institution to process your transfer credits. Once your transferred credits are processed by your home institution, you are to print and submit FIU Unofficial Transcript to the FIU Financial Aid Office, highlighting the applicable transferred course.
      • Failure to follow these steps and failure to submit the appropriate documentation will result in the cancellation of your financial aid.
      • Unofficial transcripts from Host Institution will not be accepted by the FIU Financial Aid Office. Only submit FIU unofficial transcripts to FIU Financial Aid Office.
  • Keep in Mind
    • All documentation must be submitted before the last day to pay tuition and fees at FIU. Please allow 3-4 weeks for Consortium/Transient Agreements to be verified and processed between both home and host institution after the add/drop date.
    • Students cannot receive financial aid from two institutions at the same time. Students should only receive aid from their home institution. If a host institution has awarded you aid, then you must decline the award(s). Failure to adhere to these regulations will result in the cancellation of financial aid.
    • Since you are concurrently enrolled for courses at FIU, your financial aid will automatically be adjusted to reflect your FIU enrollment when semester disbursements begin. If this adjustment decreases your aid eligibility resulting in an unpaid balance, then you are financial liable for payment until your Concurrent Enrollment Agreement is processed. Concurrent Enrollment Agreements will only be processed if all documentation is submitted before required deadline, and after host institution has reported transient enrollment to the Federal Clearinghouse. Once the Concurrent Enrollment Agreement is processed, eligible students may receive a refund for the revised amount that they are eligible for their total FIU and concurrent enrollment.
    • All Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) criteria must be met and is applicable to aid awarded during concurrent enrollment. All transient courses must be transferred over to FIU and processed to reflect on FIU transcripts. If proof of course completion is not submitted after term grades post, then any allocated funds for the term are subjected to be cancelled and payable by the student to FIU.
    • Bright Futures Scholarship recipients: Your scholarship disbursement amount will be contingent upon the rate per credit hour at the eligible host institution.
    • Stafford Loan recipients: If requirements are met for a loan disbursement, your loan(s) may automatically disburse with FIU enrollment of at least half-time.
