1 Year Certificate in Hospitality Management

Are you ready to soar in the world of hospitality management?

The 1 Year Certificate in Hospitality Management is a comprehensive and specialized program designed to equip students with the leadership and analytical skills necessary to excel in the dynamic and fast-paced hospitality industry. This program offers a well-rounded coursework encompassing various aspects of the hospitality industry, enabling students to pursue rewarding careers in hotels, resorts, restaurants, event management, cruise lines, and related fields.

Certification is Ideal For:

  • Students who wish to enhance their hospitality management knowledge and skills but may not want to commit to a full degree program.
  • Students with 3-year bachelor’s degrees that do not traditionally meet FIU’s 4-year degree graduate admission requirement. This certificate can act as their 4th year of academic studies and enable students to be admitted to the MS program without the GRE or GMAT.
    • Students may take up to 4 graduate level courses as part of this certificate that can transfer to our Master of Science in Hospitality Management program.

Coursework

Students will be required to complete 30 credits (10 courses) as part of this certificate programs.

Students may take up to 12 Graduate credits (4 courses) in this certification program that will transfer to our Master of Science in Hospitality Management program. Only courses with a B (3.0) or higher are eligible to count towards our MS program.

Note: International students studying on-campus in Miami must enroll in a full-time course load.

    4. HFT 4474: Management Accounting for the Hospitality Industry

    Students may choose two of the following courses if taking 4 graduate courses; any six of the following courses if not taking graduate courses:

    1. HFT 4295 Leadership in the Hospitality Industry
    2. HFT 3006 Emotional Intelligence and Soft Skills for the
    3. Hospitality
    4. HFT 3073 Social Responsibility in the Hospitality & Tourism
    5. Industry
    6. HFT 4545 Managing High-Functioning Teams
    7. HFT 4247 Diversity and Inclusion in the Hospitality Industry
    8. HFT 3754 Introduction to Event Management
    9. HFT 3713 International Travel and Tourism
    10. HFT 3453 Lodging Operations Control
    11. HFT 3701 Sustainable Tourism Practices
    12. HFT 3263 Dining Service Management

    If interested in applying for the MS in Hospitality Management, students are required to take the following courses:

    1. HMG 6280 Global Issues in Hospitality and Tourism
    2. HMG 6697 Hospitality Law Seminar
    3. HMG 6477 Accounting and Financial Management
    4. Any graduate hospitality course approved by the graduate academic advisor

    In addition to this certificate, students interested in applying for the master’s degree program in Hospitality Management at Florida International University must have a 3.0 grade point average from their prior bachelor's degree program to be admissible to FIU’s graduate program.
